Overview Valuation for disposal Purposes

This valuation involves a visit to the property and an inspection of all chattels with a view to individual valuation and best disposal route which might, depending on provisional valuation, involve referral to a central London Auction House or provincial Auction. The visit might last several hours and involve photography as the case may be.
The fee for this verbal valuation is £100, referrals etc ensure an impartial and transparent process. PLEASE NOTE DAVID DOES NOT PURCHASE ITEMS.

Probate and Family Division Valuations

Speed, diplomacy and accuracy are the most important factors with most probate/IHT valuations, and once received instructions are carried out with priority. The aim is to minimise as far as possible, concern, stress and the work of the Executor. In most cases documentation will be delivered within days of the valuation at a very reasonable cost to the Estate.
David is experienced at handling delicate/sensitive family division valuations and his arbitration on the value of Antique,Fine Art and general household items will help to settle these matters quickly and amicably.

Insurance and Market Valuations

Like any commodity over a period of time the value of Antiques and Works of Art can change dramatically. It is especially important that you are aware of the value of these items to ensure that you are adequately covered in case of accident or loss.

Professional Fees.

With effect 1st September 2011 I have decided to simplify my scale of charges to include all type of written valuations and charge from £200 per half day.
£200, apart from verbal Overview Valuations, will be the minimum charge for all work within a 10 mile radius of Hemel Hempstead. Petrol expenses at 50np per mile will be charged thereafter. Other expenses for living allowance will be negotiable for jobs away from home.
All Valuation Probate , Insurance, documentation may include high quality photographic records on DVD for ease of reference at a nominal charge of £20 per DVD.
Evening and weekend visits may be arranged by appointment

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS.

1. Are you properly qualified and recognised by Insurance Companies and The Inland Revenue?
I have been registered as a Member of the Institute of Auctioneers and Appraisers in Scotland since 1987 and a Fellow since 2008. All valuations since 1995 have been accepted by both Insurance Companies and HMRC. I am also on the approved list of antique and fine art Valuers with Legal and General.
The Antique and Fine Art world is highly complex with many Specialist areas. How do you reach your conclusions?
I have traded in General Antiques and Fine Art for over 35 years and am a very experienced Auctioneer and Valuer with contacts throughout the antique trade and Auction world including access to Specialist colleagues at all the major London auction rooms. This advice is normally free however from time to time with large/high value appraisals an extra fee may be appropriate. High value jewellery and very fine objet d’art appraisals would normally attract an added fee (as advised).
Photography is normally an expensive field. Why is it advisable and will I be charged extra?
Medium to high insurance claims will be investigated by underwriters who may require evidence of ownership and photographs to help various agencies with recognition and repossession. Digital photographs are therefore taken for your protection and recorded as a Gallery on a computer disc as part of the valuation (small extra charge of £20 per DVD).
Can you guarantee a comprehensive report within a reasonable time?
This very much depends on the amount of research involved and the size of the valuation. Past valuation reports, receipts etc may well help on this front and these items can considerably reduce time and therefore reduce fees. I try where possible to render the report within a week and quite often sooner at no extra charge. Weekends and evening work may attract a small premium.
Why do I have to pay on completion and why can’t your fees be paid on conclusion of probate by the executer/solicitor?
As an independent valuer and being self employed with far smaller overheads than larger firms I am able to offer a highly competitive fee structure. This would not be possible if delayed payments were applicable.
