Demarteau, Gilles.(1722-1776) French Engraver who experimented with soft ground etchings in the crayon manner .Famous for his sepia etchings and his ability to imput great tenderness and feelings into his work. His most prolific work is after Boucher however he etched after Huet and Deshayes
.This portrait is after Deshayes and dates to the 1760s.
in its later mahogany frame it measures approx 15 x22 inches
